Well, the votes are in! Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We genuinely hope to get to all of your suggestions eventually. It was a close race, but in the end the winner of our Inaugural Movie Poll is:
Christopher Nolan’s 2014 science-fiction epic, Interstellar. Really, a great first choice.
We decided that it would be fun to do a monthly “theme” based on the first pick. So this month, the theme is: SPACE! Week One will be Interstellar. The obvious movie to watch after Interstellar is its spiritual predecessor, Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Our next pick is a personal favorite, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. But for the fourth and final movie of this series, we want your help in deciding! So comment below with your suggestions for another science fiction movie set in space.
So, to recap, our current movie schedule is:
May 6th - Interstellar
May 13th - 2001: A Space Odyssey
May 20th - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
May 27th - ???
Let us know what you’d like to see. And the meantime, we hope you’ll join us in watching Molly Movie Club’s first pick: Interstellar!
@anna rettberg and everyone polling here. I am changing my nomination and I want to convince you guys to choose mine and here is the reason. When you have Casey Muratori reacting to a movie, you don't want to show him the coolest or most respectable movie you can think of. You need to show him the most absolute dog shit movie you can imagine. This is because magic happens when Casey Muratori rants. Its like Bill Burr. You don't want Bill Burr to be not angry. This is a similar situation. Just look at the episodes of jeff and casey show where they review transformers or pacific rim or sea quest DSV. Its pure gold I tell you. If you get Casey Muratori angry about something as innocuous as the number of lines of code in the linux kernel... out comes a rant that is worthy of repeat watches. Its content in its own right. Its burrata on toasted bread.
Now I know it can't be healthy for him to get him that way too often. So we should do it sparingly. So I suggest you guys consider doing this once every season. For the space theme, I nominate: "The wandering earth". If you guys can find anything worse, please post that.
