Listen now | Today’s movie is Big Trouble in Little China directed by John Carpenter. This movie is so delightful. Carpenter’s creativity is on full display. Kurt Russell is also fantastic, and he pulls off his character’s ineptitude so well. Carpenter takes a character who is really just the sidekick, but treats him as if he is the main character. The result is a movie that is extremely funny, and constantly surprising and imaginative. It’s not a perfect movie, but it is so fun to watch that its problems just don’t feel like a very big deal.
I know this is a bit too late but just got around to watching it recently and it was the best movie I've watched in quiet some time. The first hour or so is essentially perfect. The rest of the movie also has some great moments.
1) "The Thing" (1982), like you already pointed out
2) "Prince of Darkness" (1987)
3) "In the Mouth of Madness" (1995)
I put them in the order of release (since people think of these as a thematic trilogy) but I'm most interested to hear what you think of "The Thing" followed by "In the Mouth of Madness". Depends how interested you are in completing the Carpenter collection.

the main character is the side kick
I'm curious about what the movie club would think about John Carpenter's 1988 "They Live".
For John Carpenter movies,

2) "Prince of Darkness" (1987)
3) "In the Mouth of Madness" (1995)

I'd really want to suggest you to watch "Under the Silver Lake" movie. It's freaking great!
