Today’s movie is Blade Runner (The Final Cut) directed by Ridley Scott.
Blade Runner is one of the greatest movies of all time. The production design is unmatched; the sets, the vehicles, the costumes, the props, and the cinematography come together to create a totally immersive experience. It’s one of the rare movies that feels like it was truly shot in a different world, and we’re lucky enough to get a glimpse into it.

Ep. 55 Blade Runner
Sorry for the late comment but I recently started listening to the podcast again after a long hiatus.
I'd never seen this one before and I'm not a cinephile by any means, so it was a brand new experience for me. I have to say that I like the new blade runner better and by a lot.
The immersion angle just doesn't work for as it feels pretty cheap to me. I never got the sense that it was a real world but rather it felt like a movie. Nothing in this movie felt like it jelled very well, to me, the newer one does a better job of relying more on the narrative as the driving force, so when the immersion breaks it's not as jarring.
From a narrative standpoint this felt really shallow and lacking in substance. The new Blade Runner has a much more engaging plot and towards the end really explores some amazing existential ideas that kept me thinking about it for days. This one just felt shallow. The tears in rain seen was also a major let down. None of the characters were likable and didn't even feel real to me.
I'm not someone who just doesn't enjoy older movies or anything. This one just didn't do it for me. The new Blade Runner, while being far from a masterpiece, is head and shoulders above this one for me.
This was my first time watching and it was fantastic! I already want to watch it again because I'm sure I missed a bunch.
My only criticism is that the scene at the start, where the captain is trying to convince Deckard to come back, feels like it's missing a piece.
Bryant: “If you’re not a cop, you’re little people.”
[INSERT THREAT THAT CORNERS DECKARD]
Deckard: “No choice, huh?”
As it stands, how is what Bryant said new information to Deckard? Is Deckard just toying with Bryant and actually wanted to come back? How is being "little people" threatening to Deckard, wasn't he just fine slurpin' some noodles 5 minutes ago as not-a-cop? There's no other "cops vs. little people" references in the film, other than the cop that almost arrested Deckard outside the building. So I may have missed something, but it was very confusing to me.
Other than that, it was a brilliant movie. I can already tell this is one of those movies that becomes a whole different movie on the second watch.
