Today’s episode is Ghost in the Shell, directed by Mamoru Oshii and based on the manga by Masamune Shirow.
Ghost in the Shell is a really interesting and intelligent film, but it suffers from the same problems that many book/manga adaptations have. The movie doesn’t have enough time to tell the broad story of the source material, and ends up resorting to long monologues to communicate its ideas. We both enjoyed this film and found it intellectually engaging, we just wish it had been able to flesh out its ideas more fully.
Thanks for joining us for another episode! We’ll see you next week for The Terminator.
